LVT vs. VCT

For starters, what does LVT mean? LVT is an abbreviation for Luxury Vinyl Tile and VCT is an abbreviation for Vinyl Composite Tile. While offering similar looks, the two differ in terms of material makeup, cost, and installation. Designers can achieve more advanced visuals and sizes with LVT, allowing them to create more impactful environments with patterns, colors, and creative installation methods.

The material composition of LVT and VCT is different, which can help with the decision-making process. LVT is made from vinyl making it a durable hard surface with a protective layer. VCT however, is made of only a small amount of vinyl with limestone or other materials that result in a more porous option, meaning it needs consistent maintenance to uphold its structure and appearance.

LVT can be a much more durable product that comes with a thicker, more resistant core and a top coat finish that is factory applied for enhanced durability, While VCT tiles are typically thinner and use locally applied polish.

Then the maintenance costs, including chemicals and time, for VCT are higher than the initial cost and continued maintenance of LVT.

Both VCT and LVT are great options for high-traffic areas such as healthcare, education, or commercial spaces.

Interior Design Ideas from USA Libraries

In these modern times, the interior design of libraries can be a valuable community or school resource for everyone to enjoy.

They are three basic design elements that are considered essential for creating a successful library facility, Acoustics, light, and color, once you managed to integrate these three elements in one amazing design the result would be modern, efficient, and functional.

We find three examples of amazing library designs:

  • Bothell library. Bothell, Washington, USA

This flooring choice helps create a cohesive color scheme throughout the space with the paint color of the walls and the addition of white tones.

  • Vashon library. Vashon Island, Washington, USA

This design maximizes the impacts of their glass exteriors with a selection of relaxing floor colors, making a great integration between exteriors and interiors.

  • Cornelius Innovation lab at Cornelius Elementary School, North Carolina, USA.

The bright colors on the walls complemented by the carpet are particularly appealing to young students, a great design for an elementary school library.

Flooring for Healthcare Industry

When it comes to the healthcare industry, whether they are clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent care, or private practices, the material of the floors is especially important, fortunately, there is a wide variety of designs that meet key standards and requirements.

We are going to break down which are the most used and recommended types of flooring for the health industry.

First, we have the Luxury Vinyl Tile: This product is extremely easy to maintain and is built to last, but keep in mind that the floor must have a wear layer of 22mm or more to be effectively durable. LVT flooring is one of the most popular flooring products today, combining design and durability. This product can give a touch of elegance and professionalism to the waiting rooms of your private practice or clinic.

Second, The Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT): VCT is always an economical option. These tiles are a mixture of natural limestone, fillers, color pigments, and a thermoplastic binder. Though the tile is extremely durable, VCT is higher maintenance (stripping, waxing, polishing) than other vinyl floors.

And Third, The Rubber floor: Rubber flooring is extremely popular in hospital settings. Rubber elevates interiors with near-perfect installation, durability, and versatile design possibilities. The dense rubber surface structure offers proven strength under pressure, withstanding even the harshest hospital conditions without sacrificing style.

The floor you want to use depends on a series of factors to consider, come to our showroom and we will be happy to help you find the perfect choice for your flooring needs.

Carpet tile installation patterns

Carpet tiles are available in a wide variety of colors and designs, but they have another great benefit, they can also be installed in a variety of different patterns. Every pattern depends on the type of carpet tile, some patterns are for carpet squares and others are for carpet planks, let’s look at the different patterns for each.

Carpet tile squares.

1) Monolithic

In this carpet tile installation, all the carpet tile squares are installed in the same orientation.

2) Brick

The rows of the carpet tile squares are off-set by half a tile’s width, creating a brick-like pattern.

3) Ashlar

This is similar to the brick layout, but rather than off-setting each row by half a tile’s width, it’s each column that’s off-set by half a tile, creating a vertical brick-like pattern.

4) Quarter-turn

In this installation method, carpet tiles are installed in organized rows and columns, but each tile is rotated approximately 90 degrees compared with the tile before it.

Carpet tile Planks.

With carpet tile planks you can apply installation patterns like the Carpet squares such as Monolithic, Ashlar and Brick, plus two more:

1) Herringbone

This is a popular installation choice for carpet planks, as it creates a distinctive pattern.

2) Basketweave

Carpet tile planks are installed in groups of four, so that the pattern resembles a woven pattern.

The type of installation pattern you want to use is related to the type of flooring, the design, the color and other characteristics that should be consulted with professionals. Americarpet has more than 35 years in the flooring business and we are qualified to help you find the carpet that best meets your needs.

Commercial Flooring Mistakes

The flooring you choose when renovating or building your commercial space can have a huge impact on the indoor environment. Many companies make mistakes that result in loss of money and time, so you must be careful when choosing a floor for your business.

One of the most common mistakes companies make when selecting flooring is choosing the wrong type for their business, for example, hardwood floors are very beautiful and extremely popular, but hardwood floors may be the wrong choice for businesses with Open offices that are naturally noisier spaces than closed offices since more people share the same space. In this case, the carpet may be better because it absorbs up to 3 times more noise than wooden floors.

Also, Knowing the traffic pattern in your office is very important in choosing the best flooring option for you.

Another important aspect to consider is the maintenance of your floor, proper cleaning is essential to keep your floor looking like new.

Some flooring options require more maintenance than others; If that’s the case, you may be tempted to clean less often to save cost, but unfortunately, this will result in faster deterioration of your floor, meaning you’ll need to replace it sooner than expected.

It is important to consider the life of your flooring, and this will help you avoid costly mistakes that can affect your business.

LVT Wear layer Facts.

If you are wondering what wear layer is and why it is such an important consideration when choosing a new LVT flooring, You came to the right place!

The Wear Layer is a clear layer that covers the print layer of an LVT plank, protecting it from scuffs, scratches, and any other routine wear & tear.

The wear layer of LVT floors is an amazing feature that offers increased durability and low maintenance cost.

Wear layers are measured in thousands (one thousand of an inch). Flooring manufacturers generally offer LVT flooring wear layers in a wide range of thicknesses, from 8 mil to 22 mil.

Wear Layers come in a variety of thicknesses depending on the flooring manufacturer and the intended use of them.

For example, wear layers on LVT for commercial uses should be thicker, 20 mil to 22 mil or more to provide better protection against damage due to low, medium, or high traffic that commercial spaces typically have.

LVT for residential uses can have a wear layer of 8 mils or more. It all depends on the type of traffic you have in your home, but keep in mind that this has a direct impact on the durability of the flooring.

If you want durable and long-lasting flooring, LVT is a great option and the great news is that at Americarpet we have hundreds of styles and colors in all thicknesses needed for residential or commercial uses.

Differences between commercial carpet squares and planks

Commercial carpet tiles come in a wide variety of designs, colors, and patterns, but with regard to size and shape, they are two common types of carpet tiles.

The first one is SQUARES, this is the traditional option and the most common, flooring manufacturers normally offer tree sizes of square carpet tiles:

1) 39.4″ x 39.4″

2) 19.7″ x 19.7″

3) 24″ x 24″

The second type is PLANKS, carpet planks are a much more recent invention and tend to come in a relatively standard size of 9.85 “x 39.4”.

Now, what is the difference between squares and planks?

The most noticeable difference between carpet squares and planks is their shape, which influences the ranges of patterns you can achieve through various layouts. With carpet squares, you can either rotate tiles to mix up the look or offset tiles and install them in a brick layout, however for carpet planks in addition to the brick layout, you can also install using herringbone or basketweave layouts.

Another important difference between these two types of carpet tiles is the amount of waste that is produced during installation. While some degree of waste is to be expected with any carpet installation, tile size & pattern will affect how much extra carpet tile you need to do a job, for calculating this you would need an experienced person in the flooring business like Juan Werner our commercial estimator.

Wherever the choice, there is no doubt that carpet tile is a great flooring option.

Come to our showroom and we will be happy to help you find the perfect carpet tile for your flooring needs.

Advantage of Carpet tile flooring in classrooms

Your Choice of flooring can affect the noise levels, comfort, cleanliness, and aesthetics of a classroom, and all these factors make an impact on the environment of the classroom.

Here are five advantage of choosing carpet flooring for your classrooms:

1) FLOORING THAT LOWERS NOISE LEVELS

The link between academic performance and high noise levels in the classroom is well documented.

There are different studies that conclude that the average classroom that has high levels of noise can cause high levels of stress.

That is why it is important to choose a good quality floor that ensures normal sound levels, in this case, a great option is Carpet which offers a reduction of sounds, such as footsteps and chair scrapes.

2) FLOORING THAT IMPROVES COMFORT

Classrooms that are too warm or too cold will be uncomfortable for students and provide another unwanted distraction.

Your choice of flooring can help to improve classroom insulation and reduce seasonal or daily temperature fluctuation. Using carpet will improve thermal comfort, for example in warm climates, the carpet will not heat up as dramatically as other floors, and in cold climates, it will act as an insulator between the ground and the classroom keeping the heat in.

3) FLOORING THAT HELPS TACKLE ALLERGIES

Carpet tile or Broadloom carpet usually traps the allergens in the fibers and keeps them out of the breathing zone until they can be removed by vacuuming, so choosing carpet can help to lessen the impact of allergens on student health.

4) EASY TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN

Vacuuming is quicker and less labor-intensive compering to another type of floor.

5) FLOORING THAT CREATES AN INSPIRING SPACE

Research shows that school design has a significant impact on student outcomes. Your classroom design can help to inspire and motivate students, by creating a positive learning environment.

Carpet tiles offer flexible patterning and color options, and you can even recolor existing designs to specifically match your school color.

Differences between broadloom carpet and carpet tile

One of the most common misconceptions about commercial carpet flooring is that all carpet is the same, however, there are some key differences between broadloom carpet and carpet tile.

Carpet tile
Broadloom carpet

There are four fundamentals differences between broadloom carpet and carpet tile:

  • Esthetic

Carpet tiles can offer greater design freedom than broadloom carpet, thanks to advances in the manufacturing process it is possible to choose carpet tiles in a vast range of colors, patterns, and designs.

  • Installation

Broadloom comes in big rolls of carpet, that means difficulty to transport and deliver to the job site & possibly install the whole area at once, meantime carpet tile can be installed in stages and it gives the installer the flexibility to move furniture around during installation which would save a lot of time.

  • Repair

Because carpet tile comes in separate squares or planks if some part of the carpet gets spotted or wear out you can remove the damaged individual carpet tile and replace it with a new one.

Due to the size of the tile, you can store some carpet tiles for future replacements.

  • Cost-effective

Normally when you order rolls of carpet, you can have a lot of waste, which not only costs you money but also becomes a storage problem, with carpet tiles you can be more exact with the amount of carpet you need for your project and as we mentioned before it is easier to store.

At Americarpet we work with hundreds of condominiums and offices, you are welcome to our showroom and we can help you find the commercial rugs that best suit your needs.
