Commercial Flooring Mistakes

The flooring you choose when renovating or building your commercial space can have a huge impact on the indoor environment. Many companies make mistakes that result in loss of money and time, so you must be careful when choosing a floor for your business.

One of the most common mistakes companies make when selecting flooring is choosing the wrong type for their business, for example, hardwood floors are very beautiful and extremely popular, but hardwood floors may be the wrong choice for businesses with Open offices that are naturally noisier spaces than closed offices since more people share the same space. In this case, the carpet may be better because it absorbs up to 3 times more noise than wooden floors.

Also, Knowing the traffic pattern in your office is very important in choosing the best flooring option for you.

Another important aspect to consider is the maintenance of your floor, proper cleaning is essential to keep your floor looking like new.

Some flooring options require more maintenance than others; If that’s the case, you may be tempted to clean less often to save cost, but unfortunately, this will result in faster deterioration of your floor, meaning you’ll need to replace it sooner than expected.

It is important to consider the life of your flooring, and this will help you avoid costly mistakes that can affect your business.

LVT Wear layer Facts.

If you are wondering what wear layer is and why it is such an important consideration when choosing a new LVT flooring, You came to the right place!

The Wear Layer is a clear layer that covers the print layer of an LVT plank, protecting it from scuffs, scratches, and any other routine wear & tear.

The wear layer of LVT floors is an amazing feature that offers increased durability and low maintenance cost.

Wear layers are measured in thousands (one thousand of an inch). Flooring manufacturers generally offer LVT flooring wear layers in a wide range of thicknesses, from 8 mil to 22 mil.

Wear Layers come in a variety of thicknesses depending on the flooring manufacturer and the intended use of them.

For example, wear layers on LVT for commercial uses should be thicker, 20 mil to 22 mil or more to provide better protection against damage due to low, medium, or high traffic that commercial spaces typically have.

LVT for residential uses can have a wear layer of 8 mils or more. It all depends on the type of traffic you have in your home, but keep in mind that this has a direct impact on the durability of the flooring.

If you want durable and long-lasting flooring, LVT is a great option and the great news is that at Americarpet we have hundreds of styles and colors in all thicknesses needed for residential or commercial uses.

Differences between commercial carpet squares and planks

Commercial carpet tiles come in a wide variety of designs, colors, and patterns, but with regard to size and shape, they are two common types of carpet tiles.

The first one is SQUARES, this is the traditional option and the most common, flooring manufacturers normally offer tree sizes of square carpet tiles:

1) 39.4″ x 39.4″

2) 19.7″ x 19.7″

3) 24″ x 24″

The second type is PLANKS, carpet planks are a much more recent invention and tend to come in a relatively standard size of 9.85 “x 39.4”.

Now, what is the difference between squares and planks?

The most noticeable difference between carpet squares and planks is their shape, which influences the ranges of patterns you can achieve through various layouts. With carpet squares, you can either rotate tiles to mix up the look or offset tiles and install them in a brick layout, however for carpet planks in addition to the brick layout, you can also install using herringbone or basketweave layouts.

Another important difference between these two types of carpet tiles is the amount of waste that is produced during installation. While some degree of waste is to be expected with any carpet installation, tile size & pattern will affect how much extra carpet tile you need to do a job, for calculating this you would need an experienced person in the flooring business like Juan Werner our commercial estimator.

Wherever the choice, there is no doubt that carpet tile is a great flooring option.

Come to our showroom and we will be happy to help you find the perfect carpet tile for your flooring needs.

Advantage of Carpet tile flooring in classrooms

Your Choice of flooring can affect the noise levels, comfort, cleanliness, and aesthetics of a classroom, and all these factors make an impact on the environment of the classroom.

Here are five advantage of choosing carpet flooring for your classrooms:

1) FLOORING THAT LOWERS NOISE LEVELS

The link between academic performance and high noise levels in the classroom is well documented.

There are different studies that conclude that the average classroom that has high levels of noise can cause high levels of stress.

That is why it is important to choose a good quality floor that ensures normal sound levels, in this case, a great option is Carpet which offers a reduction of sounds, such as footsteps and chair scrapes.

2) FLOORING THAT IMPROVES COMFORT

Classrooms that are too warm or too cold will be uncomfortable for students and provide another unwanted distraction.

Your choice of flooring can help to improve classroom insulation and reduce seasonal or daily temperature fluctuation. Using carpet will improve thermal comfort, for example in warm climates, the carpet will not heat up as dramatically as other floors, and in cold climates, it will act as an insulator between the ground and the classroom keeping the heat in.

3) FLOORING THAT HELPS TACKLE ALLERGIES

Carpet tile or Broadloom carpet usually traps the allergens in the fibers and keeps them out of the breathing zone until they can be removed by vacuuming, so choosing carpet can help to lessen the impact of allergens on student health.

4) EASY TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN

Vacuuming is quicker and less labor-intensive compering to another type of floor.

5) FLOORING THAT CREATES AN INSPIRING SPACE

Research shows that school design has a significant impact on student outcomes. Your classroom design can help to inspire and motivate students, by creating a positive learning environment.

Carpet tiles offer flexible patterning and color options, and you can even recolor existing designs to specifically match your school color.

Differences between broadloom carpet and carpet tile

One of the most common misconceptions about commercial carpet flooring is that all carpet is the same, however, there are some key differences between broadloom carpet and carpet tile.

Carpet tile
Broadloom carpet

There are four fundamentals differences between broadloom carpet and carpet tile:

  • Esthetic

Carpet tiles can offer greater design freedom than broadloom carpet, thanks to advances in the manufacturing process it is possible to choose carpet tiles in a vast range of colors, patterns, and designs.

  • Installation

Broadloom comes in big rolls of carpet, that means difficulty to transport and deliver to the job site & possibly install the whole area at once, meantime carpet tile can be installed in stages and it gives the installer the flexibility to move furniture around during installation which would save a lot of time.

  • Repair

Because carpet tile comes in separate squares or planks if some part of the carpet gets spotted or wear out you can remove the damaged individual carpet tile and replace it with a new one.

Due to the size of the tile, you can store some carpet tiles for future replacements.

  • Cost-effective

Normally when you order rolls of carpet, you can have a lot of waste, which not only costs you money but also becomes a storage problem, with carpet tiles you can be more exact with the amount of carpet you need for your project and as we mentioned before it is easier to store.

At Americarpet we work with hundreds of condominiums and offices, you are welcome to our showroom and we can help you find the commercial rugs that best suit your needs.

Choosing commercial carpet for your business

The carpet is a major component of an office aesthetic. You may feel overwhelmed at the thought of selecting the wrong carpet but selecting carpet does not have to be a chore, at Americarpet We trying to make the experience enjoyable for our customers. Juan Werner with 35 years of experience in flooring and interior design will help you to choose your carpet.

When you are looking for commercial carpet the first thing is to define the traffic that the carpet would have, generally different business offices will receive a lot more traffic than others, Because of this it is important to pick a carpet that is durable enough to stand your office needs.

You may be tempted to select one of the cheaper options for commercial carpet, but keep in mind cheaper carpets will likely wear faster than higher-quality carpets. You do not want to have to replace a new carpet after two years, therefore it makes sense to get something made for heavy traffic.

The color you choose should reflect the amount of traffic you expect the carpet will face, for example, light colors will likely not stay clean in a highly trafficked area. A darker color is probably a better option.

If your goal is to hide dirt and traffic routes on the carpet, a pattern in the carpet design is a good idea, this will allow you to extend the time until you have to do the carpet cleaning service.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that the carpet you choose should reflect the type of business you are in, there are thousands of styles, colors, and patterns to choose from, Visit our showroom and we will help you find the commercial carpet that best suits your needs.

Americarpet has thousands of commercial carpet and carpet tile styles for you to compare in our store.

Commercial carpet tile is a great choice when it comes to flooring, they offer many practical benefits like comfort, easy installation, less waste than broadloom carpet, and a large variety of contemporary designs & colors.

The carpet tiles can fit almost any room or office because each tile is placed individually, so there is plenty of room to modify as needed around shaped objects or corners. Carpet tile comes in different sizes.

In terms of design commercial Carpet tiles with a simple pattern can be laid off in different directions creating a modern and versatile look. They also come in a wide variety of patterns that go with the latest design trends to adjust to the needs of every customer.

Commercial carpet tile is highly recommended for condominiums buildings, small or large offices, hotels, and for all commercial spaces with medium or high traffic.

Because you can easily replace damaged areas with replacements carpet tile can take hundreds of people walking on them each day without wearing down through the years, that’s way Developers, General Contractors, condominium boards and Interior designers choose to use commercial carpet tile.

AMERICARPET Partners with the largest and most important commercial carpet tile factories such as Milliken, Shaw, Mohawk, Mannington, Tarkett, Stanton commercial, Kraus, and many more.

The Best System to clean carpet tile

When it comes to cleaning carpet tile Americarpet recommends the dry-cleaning method. We have done many jobs for Businesses such as hotels, condominiums, office buildings, churches, restaurants, etc and in every case, we go with the dry-cleaning system to keep their carpet tile clean.

Because carpet tiles are individual squares or planks which are glued down to the floor, a steam clean would be bad for the glue holding the tiles to the floor therefore if water penetrates the carpet will cause moisture and water coming between tiles causing damage to the glue causing the tile to go loose.

The dry-cleaning services that we offer is a 6-step process:

1) Special Product is applied to remove the soil and other contaminants.

2) Spot Remover to Get rid of the stains.

3) Spray the Host Dry Cleaning Powder.

4) Machine with brushes to clean the carpet with the host cleaning powder.

5) To vacuum used to completely remove the cleaning powder.

6) To apply Scotchgard to protect and prevent the dirt stick to the carpet tile.

10 WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR FLOORS

Eventual marring by Marks and stains are in some cases almost inevitable, whatever type of flooring you choose, whether it is Carpet, Wood, LVT, or Porcelain.

So here at Americarpet, We want to help by giving you tips that in our 35 years of business have given great results to our customers.

1.- The first one is simple, Prevention

We all know that prevention is better than cure and this is certainly true when it comes to floor stains. By modifying your usage slightly, you can go a long way towards avoiding stains and marks that may be difficult to remove.

2.- Be careful moving heavy furniture

With hard surface floors and carpets, even those designed for heavy traffic for commercial use or residential use, take care when moving furniture or heavy objects across the floor. Ideally, lift rather than slide, if the object is too heavy to be lifted, use a towel or a heavy sock under each leg to reduce damage to the floor.

3.- Fashion but bad for wood

Try to avoid high heels on wood floors if possible and if they must be worn indoors, make sure that the heels are not worn down to the metal nails as this can seriously scratch the floor surface.

4.-Mats forever

Entrance mats are always a good idea, not only do they trap dirt, grime, and outside moisture, but they can also help to prevent unintended scratches from incoming our outgoing traffic, especially in the case of grit being tracked into the house, and the best part of this is that if You come to our store You can get a door mar FOR FREE!

5.- Strong chemicals

Be especially careful when using products with a high content of strong chemicals such as permanent marker pens, solvents, shoe polish, and hair dye. If accidental marking does occur, wipe it off as soon as possible.

6.- The terror of the interiors: Humidity

humidity can play a role in floor damage, especially with hardwood floors, try to keep humidity in the rooms between 45 and 55%. Excessive moisture in the atmosphere can cause swelling in wood fibers, leading to cracks and buckles in the finish. You can also try laying floors that humidity does not harm them, here at Americarpet We have hundreds of floors that can resist high levels of humidity.

7.- Win the war on stains

Carpet stains can usually be successfully removed using a sponge or towel and a good spot remover (luckily here in Americarpet We have the best spot remover). Remember Avoid using detergents because they will cause the carpet fibers to attract more dirt and staining can be even more likely in the future.

8.- Commercial carpet Tile is the future

One of the advantages of carpet tile is that if you got a stain hard to remove or irreparable damage was made to the carpet, you can easily change the damaged carpet tile. For this and many more reasons, the carpet industry is moving forward with carpet tile. We are going to talk more in detail about this in other blogs.

9.- Act fast in hardwood floors

For hardwood floors, the key is wiping up spills immediately. Moisture is the main enemy of timber flooring so never allow a wet area to stand. Use a soft, clean cloth to wipe up the liquid and then another dry cloth to make sure the area is completely dry.

10.- Porcelain tile

Porcelain tile tends to be water-resistant, but it is still a good idea to tackle any stains or spills immediately. Usually, just mopping with hot water and mild household detergent should do the trick as the hot water will loosen the dirt and the detergent helps to lift any oily substances off the floor. If the stain remains stubborn, try to loosen the spot with a soft brush or synthetic scouring pad but avoid steel wool or metal brushes as these can scratch the surface of the tiles.

Definitely the key to avoiding stains and irreparable damage is to prevent, act fast, and be patient.
